Gloria Melidoni

Bio

Gloria Melidoni is a multimedia artist specializing in oil painting, graphic design, drawing, watercolor, screen printing, and sculpture. Currently pursuing a double major in Computer Science and Fine Art with a concentration in painting at Georgetown University, Gloria draws inspiration from artists such as Edward Hopper, Claude Monet, Wanjin Kim, and Gerhard Richter. Their work explores themes of daily life, human connection, and the interplay between nature and architecture. Incorporating materials like plexiglass, Gloria’s art emphasizes transparency and the beauty of imperfection found in natural forms. Strongly influenced by Italian cultural heritage and architectural design, her practice celebrates color, texture, and storytelling.

Artist Statement

My work explores themes of identity, self-expression, and the interplay between natural and architectural forms. Over the years, my artistic practice has evolved from examining adolescent insecurities and self-transparency to reflecting on moments of growth and renewal. Transparency, both as a metaphor for emotional openness and as a literal element in my work, continues to inspire me through the use of plexiglass and layering techniques.

Currently, I focus on oil painting, embracing Impressionist influences to capture the beauty of the human figure and its connection to interior and exterior spaces. My practice is shaped by inspiration from nature, vibrant colors, and the imperfections that define authenticity. I often draw upon my Italian heritage, weaving architectural motifs and cultural references into my compositions.

I employ a range of mediums - including plexiglass, canvas, and wood - and techniques such as screen printing, abstraction, and gestural painting, creating a dynamic dialogue between materials. My goal is to encourage viewers to connect their own experiences with my work, offering new interpretations and perspectives. Each piece invites reflection on the complexity of our environments and emotions, culminating in a body of work that celebrates transformation, storytelling, and the resilience of the human spirit.

Education

2006-2018

Marymount International School

Rome, Italy

During my time at Marymount, I discovered my passion for art, exploring painting, drawing, and experimenting with various mediums. These early experiences sparked a lifelong love for creativity and expression.

2018-2021

Institut Le Rosey

Rolle, Switzerland

At Le Rosey, I studied art as a Higher Level subject in the International Baccalaureate program. This period deepened my appreciation for abstract expressionism and allowed me to explore innovative techniques, such as working with plexiglass and screen printing. It was here that I began to develop my unique artistic voice.

2021-2025

Georgetown University

Washington Dc, USA

At Georgetown, I concentrated on oil painting, shifting towards impressionism and focusing on the human figure, proper dimensions, and still-life compositions.
